When The Imposter Syndrome Stops You From Marketing

Blog

Have you ever experienced The Imposter Syndrome so badly that it stopped you from marketing your gifts?

I know it’s affected me, and I bet it’s affected you too.

Here’s how The Imposter Syndrome (sometimes called Fraud Factor) has crept into my marketing mindset:

  • Feeling like I have less experience, education, or credentials than others in my industry
  • Wondering “who do I think you I” giving out advice when my own business is a hot mess
  • Second guessing why anyone would want to work with me when they can work with Mr. So and So.

Sound familiar?

The Imposter Syndrome can be debilitating – not only for your mindset, but also for your marketing.

In this week’s marketing strategy, I will give you three tips on how to bust through the Imposter Syndrome block and become more visible in your marketing.

When you recognize that “who do you think you are” message is really just your Ego, you can push past it, market more effectively, and start helping more people!

BLOG POST

I’ll never forget a question I once received from one of my Celestial University marketing students. She was a parenting coach, and I was encouraging her to get more visible in front of moms who need her services.

“Jill, why would any mom want to work with me? All these parenting coaches have Ph.D.’s or are licensed therapists. I am not as qualified as my competitors.”

My heart sank when she said this. While this entrepreneur didn’t have a Ph.D., she did successfully raise two children (including homeschooling one) and was a former educator with experience not only in the classroom, but in school administration too.

She was more than qualified!

This is an example of when the Imposter Syndrome creeps into our mindset. The Imposter Syndrome is just another name for Ego.

It’s a very real mindset block. When it comes to feeling confident about our abilities, the feeling of being a fraud can stop even the most confident entrepreneur.

What to do when the Imposter Syndrome makes you want to stop marketing

The Imposter Syndrome affects nearly every entrepreneur (yay, you’re normal!). The trick is to push past it.

Here are three things I want you to remember when you’re feeling like a fraud:

Imposter syndrome do these three things

#1: Your ideal clients want to work with you. That’s what makes them ideal.

Think about the story about my Celestial University student. Sure, there will be moms who want a therapist or psychologist with a Ph.D. Those moms are not my student’s ideal clients.

Your ideal clients want to work with you and no one else. That’s what makes them ideal. Please don’t forget this!

#2: Your credentials are not only good enough, they are just right.

In marketing, we have a fancy term called “credibility factors.” These are all the aspects of your expertise that lend credibility to you. Credibility factors include your education, licensing, and experience.

When you begin to feel like your credentials aren’t good enough, make a list of your credibility factors. Read over your list and remember: For your ideal client, your credibility factors are exactly what she’s looking for.

(And be gentle with yourself!)

#3: Stop comparing yourself to others.

Theodore Roosevelt once said” “Comparison is the thief of joy.” I love this quote, because It’s what I see time and time again from entrepreneurs.

Everyone is wired differently. Some entrepreneurs can compare themselves to others in their industries and be invigorated.

Others, like me, can compares themselves and feel like a fraud. If you’re like this, then stop comparing. Unfollow them social media, unsubscribe from their lists, and stop looking at their stuff. You’ll feel so much better!

The Imposter Syndrome is just a block

Loud Woman, your mindset is really the only thing holding you back. It stops you from getting more visible, from attending networking meetings, and from getting on the phone with prospective clients.

The Imposter Syndrome is a real mindset block. I get it too! However, it’s just that—a block—not a fact. You are good enough, credentialed enough, educated enough, and just perfect for your ideal clients. Never forget that.

I am rooting for you!
